Meet Our Staff

All of our classes are run by accredited, experienced coaches with accreditations ranging from Trainee, Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Advanced Silver and FIG (International) levels. All Academy staff also have their Working with Children checks as per the state legislation requirements.

Our Board

  • Luke Martin - President

    Luke has a strong connection with HGA with his daughter, Ava, a current WAG gymnast and his wife also former gymnast at HGA. As president of the board Luke brings an experienced skillset in governance, strategy, advocacy and public relations currently working as the CEO of Salmon Tasmania. Luke is an enthusiastic advocate for HGA and what it represents, and has finally worked out the difference between parallel bars and uneven bars!

  • Lisa Clark - Vice President

    Lisa has been part of HGA since 1994, as a gymnast initially, then as a coach and judge. She paused her coaching a few years ago due to work and family commitments, and is now a Board member as well as a gym mum. Lisa is a GP and also an educator who trains doctors specialising in general practice, and says her development as a gymnastics coach at HGA contributed to her choice of medical career. Lisa brings an understanding of coaching with its complexities and nuances, and is passionate about the wellbeing and future of HGA and all members.

  • Peter Doody - Treasurer

    Peter has a long history at HGA with daughters, Megan and Hannah both competitive gymnasts, coaches and judges. Before retirement Peter worked on system documentation within the engineering area of Telstra. Peter says he is privileged to have been made a life member of both HGA and Gymnastics Tasmania, currently acting as board member of Gymnastics Tasmania which has enabled him to develop a good understanding of sports governance procedures.

  • James Devlin-Spears - Board Member

    James has three children that have attended HGA, training in the recreation and competitive programs. His wife Bibiana is also a senior coach and part of the admin team at HGA. With a background in project and infrastructure management James brings range of experience also being apart of the Board of Directors of an independent school while also chairing their building and infrastructure sub-committee.

  • Belinda Whelan - Board Member

    Belinda has a long history with HGA with her daughter Emily has been attending the Academy for over 10 years. Belinda's background includes being a competitive dancer and dance teacher, training and teaching at some of Hobart's most reputable dance schools up until her retirement in 2004 to start a family. Outside of the gym, Belinda is a wife and a mother to four very active and sporty children and currently works in the insurance industry.

Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO)

Member Protection Information Officers (MPIOs) act as the first contact point to guide members on complaint and grievance processes, providing impartial and confidential support to the person making the complaint. Contact our MPIO if you are considering making a formal complaint around child safety or unethical club behaviours/policies.

Michele Green, a former HGA member, is our MPIO for Hobart Gymnastics Academy and is available to provide advice and feedback to the club on its member protection responsibilities and to assist club members by providing information about their rights, responsibilities and options in regard to making a complaint or raising a concern.
