Vale John Radcliffe, Academy Patron

The entire Hobart Gymnastics Academy community – past and present – is deeply saddened by the passing of our Academy Patron, John Radcliffe OAM.

A gentleman of the very highest order, John was a generous benefactor, passionate supporter, and regular visitor to the Academy over the years.

John's involvement with the Academy began in 1996 when an industrious volunteer went door-knocking for Perpetual Trophy sponsorship. John immediately offered to sponsor our Club Champion trophy for five years. Awarded each year to our Academy Champion, this trophy has now been sponsored by John Radcliffe as Two-Way Taxi Trucks for an incredible 27 years.

Deeply community oriented, John took the Academy under his wing, frequently donating his services and was only ever a call away when we were fundraising or in need of assistance. As a trophy sponsor, John was a regular attendee at the Academy’s Display Days and Awards Nights. Among other things, he funded the Academy’s Achievement Bell and the Honour Boards that line the walls of the Academy.

Following many years of dedication to the Academy, John was appointed Academy Patron in 2009 - a position he cherished - and was awarded Life Membership in 2013.

His name remains perpetually associated with HGA and we offer our deepest condolences to John's family, employees, and many friends throughout the northern suburbs, greater Hobart and the whole of the state.
